Historic site of one of the largest Native American villages
inhabited by the Chumash people, and first visited by European explorers in the
16th century, Goleta has evolved through periods of ranching,
agriculture, oil and gas production and military use. Today, it is a center for
high-tech firms, is a bedroom community for adjacent Santa Barbara, and is home
to the extensive campus of the University of California, Santa Barbara and the
Santa Barbara International Airport.
Encompassing approximately 26 square miles and with a
population of around 55,000, Goleta offers modest neighborhood homes,
condominiums and gated communities. The quiet town is known for supporting and
promoting its schools, churches and community organizations, as well as for its
family-friendly parks, restaurants and other amenities.
